The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles are a Roman Catholic pontifical institute of the Discalced Carmelite Order, founded by Venerable Mother Maria Luisa Josefa of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The sisters live Mother Luisita’s unique charism, which blends the contemplative nature of Carmel with active apostolic works in education, healthcare, and spiritual retreats.

Arriving in the United States in 1927 as refugees from the virulent religious persecution in their native Mexico, the original community of three sisters has grown to one hundred and forty sisters who minister to tens of thousands of people annually in twelve sites located in California, Arizona, Colorado, and Florida.
